#ProjectSpotlight2021
As one of the leads of our aged care & retirement living sector, Jonathan Chew is eager to see how the SA Repat project with HammondCare develops this year.
The project is an exciting step forward in providing care for our elderly population. When completed, it is considered to be the first to deliver cottage-style homes in a village-like environment for people living with #dementia in South Australia.
Six cottages, each with 9-15 residents, will be located on the corner of the #SARepat Hospital site in Daw Park. The development will also include communal amenity such as a café, hair salon and shop. “Providing good accessibility, proximity into community and being dementia friendly have always been key considerations for architects working in the aged care sector,” says Jonathan. “This has never been more important, given the impending recommendations from the #agedcareroyalcommission in February.”
The project is currently in design development, with early works construction set to commence in mid-2021. Local practice Swanbury Penglase has also been engaged for landscape and heritage services.
