Crowley Care

Crowley Care is an independent care provider offering a range of seniors living and aged care services for residents across their pristine, waterfront site.

Critical to Crowley’s ethos and operation is a strong sense of connection to nature and the local community being served.

The longstanding Crowley/BM_ partnership started with a recommendation from a BM_ client CEO to a CEO colleague. Both headed up “for Purpose” entities that provide quality seniors living and aged care services and both share strong values alignment with BM_.

This recognition of BM’s experience with community focused aged care providers fostered an enduring relationship critical to the effective delivery of a multi-staged masterplan over an extended period.

The distinctives of the Crowley Care model and its unique site enabled the development of a master plan and building design that has become identifiable as uniquely “Crowley Care”.

Residential Care & Administration

Crowley Care’s first step towards realising their revitalised masterplan was the development of a new Residential Aged Care Building to support 42 residents. Adjoining this, the landmark new administration building serves as the new front door for visitors and community.

The timber and stone reception and entry foyer are cool, light-filled, and inviting. Beyond the reception the new chapel’s glass wall floods the room with light and draws the eye out to North Creek to celebrate the site’s natural beauty.

With a new vision for what residential aged care can be, bright and light-filled spaces are created to be inspiring and vibrant places to live. Enriched and stimulating social spaces are designed for residents, staff and visitors, where greater social interaction enhances the sense of community.

Master Plan

The existing waterfront site at Ballina required a thoughtful and visionary approach to a new master plan to optimise operations, better integrate with the natural beauty of the site, and allow flexibility of development options into the future.

Reviewing the opportunities and understanding the current constraints led to multiple options, upon which feasibility and potential staging were explored. The selected master plan was developed to incorporate current and future needs as well as improved connectivity to the broader community. Long term sustainability options for the site were also investigated, including increased energy efficiency.

A fresh approach to site planning generated clarity for the hierarchy of public and private spaces, legible wayfinding and signage, improved security, and importantly a greater connection to the environment. Landscaping and outdoor spaces were given a higher priority to improve wellbeing for residents, staff and visitors to the site while maintaining privacy.

The new master plan allows greater connectivity to the natural environment while maintaining care, privacy, and security for residents. It also provides a sustainable structure for development which evokes the Crowley Care ethos and aspirations for the community.
