When KU entered the Victorian childcare and early learning market in 2018, they partnered with BM_’s Melbourne studio to design landmark new childcare centres.

KU Maidstone
The new facility is designed for 84 licensed places, The facility will be over two levels with play areas on both ground and first floors. Close attention has been made to privacy screening and building acoustics, as the site is located on a busy road with close residential neighbours and businesses.
The entry will feature a large hanging garden, and the centrally located foyer opens into a large space with open staircase and skylights, bringing daylight into the core of the building. The kitchen is the heart of the facility, located just beyond the stair and entry foyer. The careful design of this central space allows for clear and legible wayfinding, allowing the heart of the space to be visible and welcoming.
The building’s form, roof line, and material palette reflect a respectful balance between the residential and commercial buildings along Hampstead Road, creating a haven through the introduction of landscaping and entry features.
